At the 2024 HMMA Annual Fall Meeting, we saw 24 HMMA members from 20 different companies attend the activities on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. If you weren’t able to make it, we created this recap to walk through key committee action items and the unforgettable social activities you missed.  

Technical Consultant Ike Flory and HMMA Joint Testing

HMMA members got the opportunity to have an in-depth discussion with NAAMM Technical Consultant Ike Flory. To take full advantage of his industry expertise, he’s been asked to join the following ASTM Committees subcommittees:  

  • E05 – Committee on Fire Standards 

  • E06 – Committee on Performance of Building 

  • F476 – Standard Test Methods for Security of Swinging Door Assemblies 

  • 80 – Standards for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives 

  • 101 – Life Safety Codes 

  • 101/5000 – Technical Committee on Detention and Correctional Occupancies 

  • 105 – Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Openings 

  • 252 – Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Door Assemblies 

For members who are interested in joint testing initiatives, HMMA will be finalizing a program for the ICC 500 Standard for the design and construction of storm shelters. Keep an eye out for joint testing information that will arrive to members. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to get your spot.  

Speaking of The Technical Committee, HMMA is in the process of reviewing ITS and UL proposals for UL 752 testing. (This is Bullet Resistant Testing). We plan on sharing more information once the reviews are completed. As an additional note, the publications review cycle of standards was changed from 10 years to 5 years moving forward. 

Members Took an Amazing Food Walking Tour

In the heart of downtown Chicago, 40 members took a journey through some of the most memorable landmarks and local food on a historic walking tour. The step of step of this unforgettable social event looked like:  

  • We started with deep dish pizza from Pizzeria Due 

  • Moved onto a walk through the Plaza of Americas and the Chicago Riverwalk 

  • Enjoyed Chicago style hot dogs at Millenium Park 

  • Trekked through Millenium Park, visiting the iconic Crown Fountain and Cloud Gate, better known as “The Bean” 

  • Had mouthwatering Italian beef sandwiches at Exchequer Restaurant 

  • The tour ended with a walk through The Palmer House Hotel where members got to experience their world-famous brownies 

New Officers Were Elected to the NAAMM Board of Directors

One of the core action items for this meeting was electing new officers to NAAMM’s Board of Directors. We’re proud to announce that Evan Matthews was elected as President, and Drew Baher has been elected to be HMMA’s Secretary/Treasurer. Guillermo Rio has moved into the position of Immediate Past President.
